Council Election

In accordance with the Saint John’s College Act 2018, St John’s College is calling for nominations for the election of two (2) Members of the College Council.

The four-year terms of the current elected members Mr John Coorey and Ms Alexandra Winter-Irving expire on 30 November 2026.

Mr Coorey has indicated his intention to seek re-election.

Ms Winter-Irving has decided not to seek re-election, having completed two full terms.

Eligibility to vote
The following persons are eligible to vote:

• a person who is a member or former member of the Council;
• a person who is a graduate of the University of Sydney and has resided on the premises of the College for at least one academic year.

Eligibility to be nominated for election
To be eligible to be nominated for election a person must be over the age of 18 and not be a Catholic priest or member of a Catholic religious order.

How the ballot will be conducted
The ballot will be conducted by CorpVote Pty Ltd, an independent ballot provider, using an Electoral Roll maintained by the College.

• A voter who has an email address recorded on the Electoral Roll will receive an email from CorpVote with instructions for voting online through a website maintained by CorpVote.
• Voters may request postal ballot packs directly from CorpVote.

Nominations open at 12:01AM AEST on Friday, 18th September 2026 and will close at 5:00PM AEDT on Monday, 5th October 2026. Nominations must be received by the closing date: late nominations will not be accepted.

This Notice of Ballot and Call for Nominations is accompanied by two documents: (1) Council Charter including Role and Responsibilities of Council Members, (2) Skills Matrix and Attributes, which are also available on the College website and via the CorpVote online nomination system.

Each nomination must contain the following:

a. The nominee’s name and contact details.

b. The names and declaration of support from two nominators (use the online facility for this element of your nomination).

c. A declaration from the nominee that they have read Role and Responsibilities of Council Members, understand the effect of that document, and agree to abide by its provisions.

d. A declaration from the nominee that they, if elected, consent to act as a Council Member and undertake to fulfil all duties and obligations required of that position.

• Enter a 500 word Candidate Statement
• Check the declarations and submit the nomination.

If the number of nominations received is greater than the number of positions to be filled, an election will be held to determine these positions. Should an election be required it will be conducted electronically and via mail as indicated above. Voting will open at 12:01AM AEDT on Wednesday, 28th October 2026 and close at 11:00AM AEDT on Monday, 16th November 2026.
