Your College experience is not just about hitting the books hard. It’s also a great time to make lifelong friends and forge memories that you will look back on for years to come. St John’s range of social, sporting and recreational facilities are available to you throughout your stay.
Communal Rooms

Student common rooms are located across the College and are a great place to meet up with your friends. Whether you want to lounge around after a hectic day of classes, study in a comfortable place or watch your favourite TV show, the common rooms are designed to be flexible to cater to all students. Each common room is equipped with Foxtel and tea & coffee making facilities.

The Quad
Recreation Spaces

The Quad is located in the centre of the College. It’s a relaxing outside space, half paved, half lawn where you can practice your morning yoga, play a game of cricket or cook up a barbeque with friends. The Quad is also used as a venue for events held by the College including the Matriculation dinner.

We recognise that physical activity is vital for our wellbeing and health at all stages of life.  St John’s students are encouraged to access a wide variety of facilities, services, grounds and competitions to support their choice of physical activity.

As a member of the St John’s community, you receive an annual membership of Sydney Uni Sports and Fitness (SUSF) to support you in achieving a balance between your studies and other elements of your life.

St John’s also has a small in-house gym, managed by the Student Club, that is available to John’s students.

The St John’s oval, located directly behind the College, contains rugby and soccer fields which are available for exclusive use by St John’s students from 5:00pm to 6:15pm Monday to Friday.  The St John’s College Student Club run a social co-ed touch football competition along with other informal seasonal sporting activities.

The College also has a dual-purpose tennis and basketball court located next to the Gatehouse, near Parramatta Road.

As a member of the St John’s community, you receive an annual membership to use the facilities at Sydney Uni Sport & Fitness (SUSF) to support you in achieving a balanced lifestyle.

Your membership to SUSF gives you access to athlete standard sporting facilities including:

  • 2 Health & Fitness Centres
  • 220+ cardio machines and pin-loaded resistance equipment
  • 6 synthetic grass tennis courts
  • 7 squash courts
  • 8-lane indoor heated Olympic swimming pool
  • 4 full-size Basketball Courts with stadium seating
  • 8m high, 300m² indoor climbing centre
  • Boxing room

There are also more than 65 group fitness classes available per week, everything from yoga to kickboxing to salsa dancing, if you prefer to work out in a group.
