Your invitation to contribute and participate.

College Council has resolved to commission the writing of an official history of the College and has appointed a Working Group to provide advice on the scope of the project and bring it to fruition.  The Working Group presently comprises Chair of Council John Coorey, the Rector, Des Kennedy SC and Kyle Oliver.

The Working Group is currently reviewing and gathering source material and is inviting input from alumni and friends of the College.

If you would like to support the project, and potentially play a part in shaping the finished product, by proposing themes and providing potential source material, this is your opportunity to do so.

Assistance that the College would welcome includes:

  1. Notifying the Working Group of sources of information about the history of the College, whether previously published or not, that may not be generally known or generally accessible. Much useful material concerning the history of the College will be documented in unpublished papers and correspondence, in old newspaper clippings, and in specialist publications. If you know where any material of this kind is located, the Working Party wants to hear from you.

  2. Providing original source material by recording, and lodging with the College, a personal memoir of your personal experience of life in the College, whether as a student or a member of the staff, or an appreciation of any significant aspect of your association with the College. The Working Party is keen to establish in the College a permanent digital repository for material of this kind, since modern digitisation methods mean that there is no limit on the amount of this material that can be collated and made searchable and accessible for research.

  3. Depositing copies of historically significant documents, photographs or other memorabilia concerning the College or events that have occurred there. As with original memoirs, material of this kind can be stored for searching and retrieval in a digitised repository, and the Working Group will co-ordinate any assistance you may require in order to provide digitised copies of your original documents.

If you are able to assist in any of these ways, or if you have any suggestions or ideas that might assist, then please contact the Working Group via history@stjohnscollege.edu.au

The Council intends to keep you informed as the history project progresses, so watch this space.
