St John's College is a residential college
affiliated with the University of Sydney. Founded in 1857, it is the
second oldest university college in Australia.
College life is the peak University
experience, for it encourages and develops every aspect of a young
person's nature, and draws out the best. Our brief is not just housing,
but education: St John's College strives for the full development of
its students - academic, sporting, cultural, spiritual and intellectual.
Our goal is to turn out students who are
qualified, by self-discipline, academic achievement and established
habits of decency, to take their place as leaders in their professions
and in the nation.
The College annually awards a number of Entrance
(First Year) Scholarships. Further information on the
scholarships can be obtained from the College Office. Selection
criteria for most scholarships are examination results and financial
need. Applications for Entrance Scholarships should be
directed to the Rector and close strictly on 15 December each year.
In 2009 St John's College, in conjunction
with Sydney University Sport, will be offering at least six Sporting
Scholarships, valued at up to $5000 each. We are seeking young
men and women now at school (or taking a GAP year) who are sporting
all-rounders. While strength in a particular sport is desirable,
preference will be given to applicants who commit themselves to
representing the college in at least three sports. Commitments will be
reviewed each semester. Applications for Sporting Scholarships should
be made directly to St John's College.
