how do I
apply?
Entry
to St John's College is
very competitive. Applications always greatly exceed
available places. Apply early to
allow the best possible opportunity.
The
College accepts students who enrol at
any course offered by the University of Sydney. Provisions
are made for students studying at other Universities at the discretion
of the Rector.
Membership
of the College is conditional
upon an undertaking by the student to accept the authority of the
Rector (and those to whom his authority is delegated) in all matters
related to the government of the College and the conduct of student
affairs. An application for admission will be taken to imply assent to
this.
The
Application Process
Applicants
are encouraged
to complete the application process, including the interview with the
Rector, as early as possible in the year before entry, and preferably
no later than 15 November.
Students
intending to take a GAP
year should ideally apply before doing so, in order to maximize their
chances of being offered a place for the year after they return.

A
non-refundable application fee of
$50 and four passport-sized photographs must be included with your
application.
On
receipt of the application form,
candidates will be contacted by the college and asked
to arrange an
interview with the Rector (or a senior member of staff). If a
face to face interview is not convenient, a phone interview can be
arranged.
You
also need to provide Referee's reports.

Confidential
references (on the form above) should be sent
directly to the Rector by your referees. They should not be seen by the
applicant.
Applicants
must advise
the College immediately of their exam results, by email or fax.
It is
also the applicant's responsibility to
inform the college immediately
after being notified
by the University of acceptance into a Faculty.
Selection

Successful
applicants will be students whose interests and achievements cover a
wide range of the following:
- A
strong sense of purpose and a
well-considered career goal
- Commitment
as a Church member
- Employment
experience (including a GAP
year)
- A
strong record of Community Service and
a stated commitment to the College's initiatives in helping others
- Leadership

Room
Allocations and Fees
It is
customary for commencing students
rooms to be allocated randomly. Sometimes it is necessary for us to
allocate commencing students to twin-share accommodation, although this
is
normally only done at the request of the applicant. Sharing a
room
entails a considerable saving in cost. The St John's College fees for
this academic year can be obtained from the Fees
section on this website.
