Don’t miss what will truly be a unique and entertaining afternoon in the lead up to the Wallabies v Scotland in celebration of Matt Laffan and the Scholarship that bears his name at St John’s College.
Matt was a talented lawyer with the Department of Public Prosecutions, tireless campaigner for those with disabilities, Sydney Lord Mayor aspirant and a proud and loyal Johnsmen. He lived his 38 years with a severe disability called diastrophic displasia. While Matt was confined to a wheelchair he never let his disabilities get in his way. St John’s College provided many unique and enriching experiences for Matt where he made countless lifelong friends.
Matt’s obituary, written by Former Wallaby and author Peter FitzSimons, provides testament of what a remarkable man he was.
2017 marks the ninth Laffo’s Long Lunch and the collective proceeds from these annual events have supported three young people with disabilities attend St John’s College.
Tickets will be available to purchase soon.
“It has been a pleasure and an honour to have had the privilege to not only meet Dick and Jennifer Laffan but to have also had the opportunity to represent Matt Laffan at a place where he thrived so transcendently. John’s has been such an integral part of my life for the past three years in a social, intellectual and spiritual context. From where I now stand (or sit!), none of it would have been possible had it not been for the Laffan’s ongoing support and the nurturing environment that makes John’s such a special place.”
