Conditions of Residence

  1. DISCIPLINE. Members of the College shall not behave in a manner prejudicial to the peace, order or good reputation of the College. Students who do not observe College discipline, or who waste their own time or the time of others, or whose presence for any other reason is considered undesirable, may be suspended or expelled.

  2. READMISSION. Readmission to the College each semester is not automatic. Students must pass all subjects, and be of good standing, if they wish to be offered a place for the semester following. A student who fails one or two subjects may be offered an opportunity to show cause why he/she should be readmitted on probation. A student readmitted on probation will be required to pass all subjects during the probationary period.

  3. NOTIFICATION. Students must advise the College of their Student Number and the list of subjects and units in which they are being examined, and permit access by the College to their examination results.

  4. RIGHT TO QUIETNESS. Every student has a primary right to quiet and undisturbed study conditions. If a student is disturbed by noise, he or she should first negotiate with the person or persons concerned. If such negotiation fails, a complaint should be directed at once to a member of the House Committee, an RA or the Tutor-on-duty.

  5. DRESS. Correct dress and behaviour are expected of all students, not only at formal but also at informal meals, including breakfast.

  6. ABSENCE OVERNIGHT. Students may not spend a night away from the College without informing the Rector in writing. There is a form for this purpose.

  7. SICKNESS OR INJURY. Students are asked to report all cases of sickness or serious injury to the Rector immediately.

  8. FIRE SAFETY. Unauthorised use of fire-fighting equipment is an extremely serious offence which will incur a heavy fine and may lead to expulsion as well as civil consequences. Naked flames or heaters with exposed elements etc., are not permitted in student rooms.

  9. VACATION RULES. Unless otherwise indicated, all rules also apply during vacations.

  10. CONSUMPTION OF ALCOHOL. Alcoholic liquor may be consumed within the precincts of the College only in accordance with current College and civil regulations. Alcoholic drinks are banned in corridors and tea stations. See Appendix Two.

  11. AUTHORITY OF THE RECTOR. The Rector is empowered to amend or add to the Regulations of the College at his own discretion from time to time.

  12. PROTECTION OF PROPERTY. Students are responsible for the College furniture and fittings of their own rooms. Damage to this property and to all other College property is to be reported immediately to the Office. If walls are damaged by hanging posters students may be liable for the cost of repainting. College furnishings shall not be removed from any room, private or public, to which they have been assigned, nor shall any electrical or other fitting be altered or removed without permission. No ball games are to be played inside the buildings.

  13. GUESTS. Each member is responsible for the conduct of guests in College. The host must be present at all times during the guest's visit, and is responsible for ensuring that the College is secure.

  14. CLOSURE. In the event that the University of Sydney closes or discontinues teaching for any reason, the College is relieved of its obligation to provide students with accommodation during the period of closure.
